We returned to a very different Kelowna than the one we had left.
The fires were under control in the Okanagan, evacuation orders had been lifted. While there were still a few smoky moments the skies were mainly clear.
We had a relaxing couple of days while the girls got ready to head back to school after Labour Day. Monday featured a terrific visit to the Myra Canyon Trestles. Stew had a pile of work emails to get through, so the rest of us headed up to Myra Canyon Provincial Park, where we cycled a 25km route out and back along the former Kettle Valley Railway, built in the early years of the 20th century.

The Myra Canyon trail sits about 3000 feet above the valley, and features 18 trestle bridges and two tunnels. Itβs a spectacular route which runs on a low grade (your vehicle does all the work climbing the hills and one particularly bumpy corrugated dirt road).

Many thanks to Angus Cycles for the bikes, and to Betty for treating us all to ice cream cones at the fantastic Parlour Ice Cream shop in downtown Kelowna. Homemade ice cream and cones, both of which are fantastic!

Finished the day with comfort food on the patio at Dunnenzies- cold beer, good pizza and the best tree in town.

Tuesday was back to school day for D&J, both attending middle school. It was lovely to be here for the excitement and anticipation of that first day, and even better as retired teachers to be missing out on all of the work and nervous energy associated with the new school year!

We are ready to head home: missing our kids, family and friends and anxious to be back to witness more milestones for our grandson Rory who also marked a βfirst dayβ on Tuesday!

Postscript:
After a hectic and at times frustrating day of appointments we treated ourselves to a tasting at the idyllic Cedar Creek winery, just down the road from Betty and Stewβs. Cool architecture, beautiful setting and lovely wines.
