The trip to Adelaide from Heron Island was a bit of an odyssey. It started with a two hour journey on the catamaran in pretty rough waters. The captain began the journey warning us that the crossing might be pretty rough and if we hadn’t taken anything yet it was probably too late for magic pills! I was glad to have taken some precautionary Gravol earlier in the day!

Next was a race to the small airport in Gladstone, a quick hop to Brisbane and then the three hour flight to Adelaide.
We sent this picture off to Graham and Patty from the Brisbane runway to remind them we were coming!
It was a great reunion in Adelaide and a late night sitting by the pool catching up.

The next morning we set out early in search of brunch, followed by a trip to the marvellous Adelaide Central Market.

The Central Market was fantastic, a great mix of produce and local cheeses and meats. It is very reminiscent of Toronto’s St. Lawrence market. We spent time shopping for charcuterie and dinner ingredients!
This sign seemed to capture the day’s theme pretty succinctly.

After a great afternoon hanging by the pool to beat the heat (Adelaide was in the middle of a heat wave) we headed downtown to watch the first of three Fringe Festival shows we would see. But first, dinner at Golden Boy (obviously a tribute to Paul E.), a really great South Asian fusion style restaurant. The food was both amazing and seemingly endless.

It was a great first full day in Adelaide capped off by a Fringe Festival stroll and show. I’ll explore the Fringe and our escapades in McLaren Vale in separate posts.
